FLOATING JOINT TECHNIQUE THREE-LEVER OF TENSEGRITY ADVANCED PRESSURE TECHNIQUES SCARTISSUE TECHNIQUE SPORTSMASSAGE STYLE, RHYTHM, AND BREATH
The following classes are 25, 16, or 12 CE hours. See COURSE SCHEDULE for upcoming dates.
ASHIATSU ORIENTAL BAR THERAPY - Barefoot Basics - 25 CE hours
CERTIFIED PREGNANCY MASSAGE - 16 CE hours
PHILOSOPHICAL PHYSIOLOGY - 12 CE hours
PREGNANCY MASSAGE ( 16 hours ) This 16 hour certified course taught by Peg Johnson teaches you how to successfully work on pregnant women. You will learn techniques designed specifically for pregnancy, body positioning, contraindications, and the benefits of pregnancy massage. Weight gain, organs being pushed out the way, and stretched ligaments, are just a few of the many changes a woman's body undergoes during pregnancy. Pregnancy Massage softens the tissue, stretches help the joints to move, and toxins are moved into central circulation all while helping conditions such as low back pain, sciatic pain, pressure on joints, sinus congestion, arm and neck pain, and indigestion. $325
Supplies to bring: 2 sets of sheets; 2 large towels; 4 pillows; cream, oil, or gel (NO ARNICA). Creams can also be purchased.
Pregnant women will be provided. Anyone wanting to become a volunteer for the Prenatal class please call Peg at 1-815-729-9302.
NEW CLASS STARTING IN AUGUST:
ASHIATSU ORIENTAL BAR THERAPY - BAREFOOT BASICS ( 25 hours ) Therapists will be trained in one-footed posterior protocols and be shown how to safely complete the treatment by balancing the client back to a homeostatic state of well-being. This 3-day introductory course is designed to teach massage professionals how to administer the ultimate barefoot effleurage application. There are some fitness level/weight restrictions with taking Barefoot Basics class. The work may look easy through photos but in reality it takes strength, balance and coordination to deliver the application with flow and grace. $645
PHILOSOPHICAL PHYSIOLOGY A 12 hour class based on Deane Juhan's book Job's Body, this lecture/discussion course moves through chapters 2-9, focusing primarily on the relationships between connective tissue, muscle tone, and proprioception. As we see the body and mind merge into 'bodymind', the physiology of tissues in the process of functioning becomes driven and governed by emotions Since our emotions play out within our own philosophies, by the end of class, we can connect our values to our emotions through our unconscious mind to our proprioceptors, muscle tone, and on to our collagen fiber/fascial structure. In short, how we view the world is in direct relationship to the arrangement of our collagen fibers, and so to our structure. This dynamic is explained from a bodyworker's point of view, making the class directly pertinent to effective massage. $195
FLOATING JOINT TECHNIQUE All joints are normally under compression from muscle tone. Joints can be put in temporary traction by pulling on them. There is a fine space where a joint is between the two - no compression nor traction forces. Here the joint is 'floating', and powerful self-correcting responses can readily be elicited from the clients’ homeostatic reflexes. In this class you will learn to feel that 'floating' moment, and explore how it can be used. This is a very subtle technique that has virtually no contraindications. $325
THREE LEVER THEORY OF TENSEGRITY Problematic patterns in the body 'play out' in its tensegrity-organized forces. Chronic patterns involve the entire body while at the same time having local phenomena. While every body is organized uniquely, there are commonalities to these forces. In this class the commonalities are discussed, and a theoretical basis is presented for organizing effective work quickly and efficiently. All structural, and many non-structural, technique approaches can function within this framework. $325
ADVANCED PRESSURE TECHNIQUES It is possible to work deeply into tissue layers without having to apply heavy pressure. Here you will learn how to work clients' bodies from the inside out, and how to work around structures. When these are combined with the classic working into tissues, the body becomes 'transparent' to the practitioner in terms of pressure. How deep bodywork is done becomes a function of movement directing pressure into tissue rather than pressure on tissue. Perspective on the practitioner's part becomes more three-dimensional relative to the client's tissue structures compared to deep work that relies primarily on pressure. $325
SCARTISSUE TECHNIQUE Inefficient healing of scar tissue after surgery or injury can seriously affect quality of life and increase health costs. The ability to influence the scar tissue matrix' organization is key to achieving maximum range of motion and muscle function. This class will provide participants with an overview of ScarTissue massage techniques and practices. Lectures will focus on the connective tissue processes of wound healing, both post-surgery and post–injury, including the energy dynamics of scar tissue remodeling. The hands-on portion will consist of demonstrations of various ScarTissue massage techniques, followed by participants’ active massage work, with instructor assistance and guidance. $325
SPORTSMASSAGE A 20 hour intensive, Chuck LaFrano’s SportsMassage course is the result of his 7 seasons as head of the massage team for the Chicago Bears as well as his many client-athletes. You will learn: injury-solving and -preventing theories and techniques, pre-event techniques that improve cardio-pulmonary efficiency with clear contraindications, detailed approaches to rotator cuff and anterior cruciate ligament problems, and simple, easy to implement proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation techniques, and more. Plus, SportsMassage techniques work very well on most physical problems and tissue conditions with non-athletes, giving them broad applications beyond the realm of sports. $325
STYLE, RHYTHM, AND BREATH We could call this class ‘a celebration of style’, and it is also an exploration of outer and inner rhythms. As a celebration of style, we will blend and connect various techniques into a flowing and seamless experience for the recipient, an experience designed to facilitate dreamlike dissociations from everyday reality. Rhythm is an integral part of the experience, and we will work with and understand rhythmic constructs incorporating them into the massage flow. Beyond this, we will look at the technique of exploring inner rhythms, where we will seek to feel internal rhythmic pulses unique to the person on the table, and use those pulses to enhance unique releases through his or her personal rhythms. The process for learning to access internal rhythms is itself both unique and challenging. $325
ETHICS A 4 hour class, Ethics will encompass ethical issues from business, client – therapist, personal and inter-personal perspectives, as well as boundary issues. Open discussion is the overall format. We will have a variety of scenarios to choose from, and any situations you are interested in will certainly be addressed. $65
